Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? Investment fraud takes place every day, around the world and it occurs in many different forms, the most common types being affinity fraud, investment ads, cold calls and, offshore investments, to name a few. Fraud has become so common that sometimes we fail to recognize it. So what are some of the signs to look out for?
-Promises of a life of luxury and dreams of easy retirement.
-Misleading information about the potential investment opportunity.
-Cold calls, attempts by strangers to sell you something over the phone, they may falsify information or use high‐pressure sales tactics to get you to invest.
-Boiler room, high‐pressure salespeople calling from a makeshift office “boiler room” where they try to sell investors business ideas that sound probable.
Before you invest be sure to;
-Check to ensure the person or company offering you the investment is registered.
-Protect yourself by asking the right questions and doing your own research.
-Review speak to your registered Advisor before proceeding.
